Saturday Style Icons: 03 Paloma Faith

I'm a big fan of Paloma Faith so I had to include her as one of my style icons! In the summer I saw her in concert which was amazing and I'd definitely recommend anyone to go see her sing live. Anyway, let me give you a bit more information...

Paloma was born in 1981 in Hackney and was encouraged to take up ballet from a young age. Once she'd finished college, she studied for a degree in contemporary dance at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. Once Paloma had finished that she went on to do an MA in theater directing at Central Saint Martins.

She began her music career around 2007 when she was a singer in a burlesque cabaret where she was scouted. In 2009 she released debut singles Stone Cold Sober and New York and then her debut album, Do you want the Truth or something Beautiful? which had a lot of success! In 2012 she released Fall to Grace (my favourite album of the two) and then she has recently announced that her third album A Perfect Contradiction will be released this year!  Not only this, but Paloma acts too and has appeared in St. Trinian's and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus so she's been very busy.

What I love about Paloma's style is that she's not afraid to be different! She's the best of British and shows off her eccentricism. Not only this, but she has a passion for vintage and retro and this is shown in her outfits and hair. I think she looks really elegant and a real show girl! What's not to like? She's definitely got fame for her daring style, but what do you think?

Golden Shoes

The other day I went for a winter walk, which I thought was a great idea to get some fresh air and to walk off all that chocolate I ate over Christmas, but it rained and it rained. All day. Never the less, I had a great day with my boyfriend and got to show off my new shoes.

I have wanted some brogues for ages as I really believe they're a timeless classic and last year my sister bought a pair like these and I immediately fell in love with them! Through my sister purchasing Grenson, I found my golden ones and I knew I had to have a  pair and bought them with my Christmas money.

They're so different and I think that's why I like them so much, I haven't seen many other metallic brogues around. The rubber wedge sole on them is quite thick and makes me about an inch taller. At least I know I'm not going to wear any holes in them anytime soon.

I must admit that I am a bit of a magpie and I'm attracted to anything that sparkles. These are so shiny you can see your reflection! At least my Granddad can't say I'm scruffy anymore (not that I ever was).

I'm really pleased that I got these shoes from Grenson! They were quite expensive for my pocket, but the quality of them is excellent and these will last me for a long time and you must always treat yourself to something luxurious once in a while.

Christmas is Coming...

Today it's started to snow! It's snowed so much... I'm worried about tomorrow. I bet it'll be so icy. Luckily I've got my Wellington boots. Not long now until Christmas either. Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?

I have! Whilst I was at it, I decided I was going to nip to the café and my boyfriend and I shared lemon cake and gingerbread milkshakes. They were delicious and it felt really Christmassy.

Next week I'm going to visit London again for my interview at UCL for the architecture course there. Please wish me luck! I'll let you know how it goes when I receive news.

A Cakeful of Work!

Recently I've been baking. I love to bake, especially with my sisters. We make Victoria Sponge Cake all the time because it's so quick and easy to make. I also like to get into the whole baking housewife theme by wearing a vintage scarf in my hair.

The only thing I would say that I don't like about baking is the washing up, although it's definitely worth it because of the delicious food you can create.

If anyone wants to start baking more, I would recommend to create a simple sponge cake because they're so easy and fun to decorate.

 Other news is that I have received portfolio requests for Cardiff and UCL so I will need to get these sorted and sent if I want to study there next year to do architecture. I am really excited about starting university. I hope it goes well. I'll keep my progress updated on here.

Afternoon Tea

Hello everyone! This is my first ever post here. Let me know what you think of my new blog, I'd really appreciate it. ♥
Recently my boyfriend and I visited a local tea rooms to have afternoon tea. The building was lovely and the decorations fitted in with the café's vintage theme. We were brought two tiers, one was full of sandwiches and the other full of cakes. However there was only two of us to eat all of this!

We didn't manage to eat it all, but I think we gave it a good go. The cakes were especially delicious and really cheered my day up.
Has anyone else had afternoon tea? I would really love to visit Betty's in York, but there's always a huge queue! It's because it's so prestigious.
