I've now been back at uni for five weeks and I have been so busy! I can't believe how quickly my first year is going. I finish in June which will soon come around.<br />
<br />
I have had some really exciting news with my illustration business, <a href="http://www.buttercrumble.com/" target="_blank">Buttercrumble</a>. We were published in NEO magazine, so if you want to find out more about that then please read about it <a href="http://www.buttercrumble.com/published-in-neo/" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
Other news, we recently went on a day trip to York with my sister and my uni friends. My sister and I have been to York so many times, but my friends at uni have never been so we just had to show them! Oh look, there's a photo of us...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUyhKy2p59WVJpxX7PZvAxkv_2zl-82vZdWBYX-iUOOURl3f8SGFzwKzd6jU-2GaoUl4KsUBrSpFAUoKuhI-CQ3NoNz5QUCAFICZ_Rc9XDk472XwKbp-eYtC4LVYWF8SBqTUVFY8DNKoo/s1600/150214-4.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I showed them Betty's tearooms, it would have been lovely to go in, but there was such a long queue like there always is. Plus it's quite expensive, especially when you're student. A girl can dream though. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTT44HOJmhjVj_vYa8MK1rIZ_4Px8N8XsX9Jwk0e_g2CDPKfBACPTGbYfXvhB4eHeuOypPXkNfaDPdgVwfJt4R-jDugMQaKzRpekpwyAwk_Yo-3VrgTvEMh1tnRVBvWzinuxbEBxSQMMk/s1600/150214-1.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
York Minster is a must-see! It's so beautiful. I actually based my fine art project on it at A-Levels. I love the Gothic architecture and huge windows.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6Dr8JS-hjd4f2NQG9nolQVfJ_Mxde8h4DZS5-49diez1aPUBWsPIy63HeqhhrZvehDKFNV-WQftN0Oa1hOWr5BnYuyXpAkIqNoYM9sa-PCEPSkc9X2dY-JMyV_szXK2uSe0C4J8cPe0s/s1600/150214-6.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
Once we went and had a good look at the minster, we visited the "most haunted" pub in York for lunch. It was delicious, but the portions were huge (not that I'm complaining) and we really enjoyed ourselves.<br />
I'm going back to York this weekend, but for a hospital appointment. I'm such a busy bee!<br />

In the summer <a href="http://deardaffodils.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/paloma-faith.html">I saw her in concert</a> which was amazing and I'd definitely recommend anyone to go see her sing live. Anyway, let me give you a bit more information...<br />
<br />
Paloma was born in 1981 in Hackney and was encouraged to take up ballet from a young age. Once she'd finished college, she studied for a degree in contemporary dance at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. Once Paloma had finished that she went on to do an MA in theater directing at Central Saint Martins.<br />
<br />
She began her music career around 2007 when she was a singer in a burlesque cabaret where she was scouted. In 2009 she released debut singles <i>Stone Cold Sober</i> and <i>New York </i>and then her debut album, <i>Do you want the Truth or something Beautiful?</i> which had a lot of success! In 2012 she released <i>Fall to Grace</i> (my favourite album of the two) and then she has recently announced that her third album <i>A Perfect Contradiction</i> will be released this year! Not only this, but Paloma acts too and has appeared in <i>St. Trinian's </i>and <i>The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus </i>so she's been very busy. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBI4MIkR_26WYimonzIhtvy1GcUQVZBfcm9FVo61VhXPhyhIvUaSGzt8gLKZ0yKkeanj6UrwIY8Isye44lwe4dphH_CsW1O_d-vXzd9KMH4RVU217CPv09HJ3oxI8018PMKM4JtQv7qUs/s1600/Style-Icon---Paloma-Faith.png" /></div>
<br />
What I love about Paloma's style is that she's not afraid to be different! She's the best of British and shows off her eccentricism. Not only this, but she has a passion for vintage and retro and this is shown in her outfits and hair. I think she looks really elegant and a real show girl! What's not to like? She's definitely got fame for her daring style, but what do you think?<br />

and I was lucky enough to win! I was so pleased because the online
store is beautiful and full cute jewellery, stationery, homewares and
prints. I wanted to share with you what I received.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitgFJkzVxyGOT35crktZ6li1zhM0L_QTWm84zb8IrHs5UzRBQi_iGwjWmDpqET-fNwRl4BYOmH1fHAPIq6CqDltZIk-xnEt2ujeT1xZYRwf0spEvaZtixxX2sTsbrbPmNavh6nD0GtXEw/s1600/1.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
I received two pairs of <a href="http://lovelypigeon.com/node/43" target="_blank">triangle earrings</a>, four <a href="http://lovelypigeon.com/node/454" target="_blank">fabric badges</a>, two <a href="http://lovelypigeon.com/shop/print" target="_blank">prints</a> and a lovely postcard. I love all the pretty pastel colours. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTaNMWgRi90u0rBg58gKKVRrEC5O2gkWJvSzXC_TO_TdxY8ywdJi9zPUHR9fzvc5b3_THwnoVtNF6eqGvfVDxHul-P_BW3GQUSL7D9jwmkxploy4djhvFPXtyQw8X7Zc-XFnkDA4SXDSo/s1600/2.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
The patterns on these fabric patterns are perfect! I really like how they're based on isometric graph paper and they're sturdy too. They make a stylish accessory. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhskYSlPWURelEO0qAd5gbRek0c6xqVaDI7jvrsFuKDMswfWjRATpWC3FJi3N3UnRBb0pa2gyceMehSIOh5YFZw-nUiB-pyC80u6B1il2-uiW6bXAs8QZmBkv_rwXfuqNbuT-NpWkPadLA/s1600/3.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
These earrings are quirky, but the simple colouring makes them chic and will go with so many of my outfits. I'm a big fan of graphics design and they're right up my street!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3XwCj77DV19ABYtjB6IPkpr8UBTsq42SC6NN7qsPJRYqjFJGs0CO-XCl-0jRPO1X9PdEkMK54feksC1D_cW8KhWzS1-xk607O6VMdtGplKBtQBbcnd1535jXG6GtTgp-59T-9OKv6S-Q/s1600/4.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
The limited edition prints of an antelope and an ermine are beautiful! The striking black lines and the blocks of colour make them very beautiful artwork. A great gift for any art lover like myself and really inspires me to get printing!<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So this week it has been three years since we first got together and so to celebrate I went up to York to meet him for the day and we went to the cinema to see 'The Wolf of Wall Street' (which is a wonderful film, but not one to watch with your parents). As a little anniversary present, I jumped on the mason jar bandwagon and filled up two jars with sweets and one with ingredients for a delicious hot chocolate.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq0CmLnrFnbgxT_J7FKldVoBR1mixta98dHSyx68XhDvGF9DZWn0rclWKFpcjSyPhUZQucMJNaCkwhrvb5P1bD3hb7TFXpk8y7rbyyTVr9KBi4uo9kx26x3K33I9BqEekEEGCMLFiFqK4/s1600/2.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
In the sweets jar I filled it with all <strike>my</strike> his favourite sweets such as little chocolate hearts, Haribo hearts and rings, Percy Pigs and mint humbugs. Yum yum. I used <i>Kilner</i> jars so I know the food won't go off and it's something he can reuse for storage. The sweets jar is a clip-lock so it's especially secure! (He likes practicality so this was a bonus). <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiagcHpoFQ54jo-rAQxeOY5-L9c6Uidi1HhEVo9fTY32WKgzp4Vo1TlHQXtElJ6LF9nYgfer41S1LdXc0n8b_PZCNdGAOHAQdnqEKQkuD64Sq03s19yTIRJ3QirclmwzwzQA72HrNE6xtI/s1600/3.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
The hot chocolate jar contains: 3 teaspoons of hot chocolate powder, 4 marshmallows, a chocolate flake and a couple more mints (because he needs them). We're both big hot chocolate lovers, especially when the weather is cold like this. I'm sure he'll enjoy them, he looked really happen when he opened them anyway.<br />
<br />
Now to think of something for Valentine's day! Any ideas?<br />

This was a success and you seemed to like it so I couldn't wait to share with you my next icon, Brigitte Bardot. <br />
<br />
Brigitte Bardot was born in 1934 in Paris and as a child was encouraged by her mother to take up music and dance which Bardot was very good at. When she was 15, Bardot was trying to develop a modelling career and ended up being featured in French magazine, Elle. As she was now becoming a successful model, she wanted to try her luck on the screen and debuted in Crazy for Love (1952).<br />
<br />
Brigitte continued to appear in French films, but also made American productions and created quite a stir with her beautiful kitten like features. The USA were fascinated with her and she featured in many more magazines and films.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0p6zFqZJKCDBO9-l9_a1vXkIus2iV1D-71HXOOnqVpjno4lILCpSfzLizpGxQR_YXoH_692A5J0C7XqDkOkwAgV50zDo0cycPG_LWksFA1Sy52nyCktRHVbhkpaWSPsAuuTI6azpvRlQ/s1600/Style-Icon---Brigitte-Bardot.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0p6zFqZJKCDBO9-l9_a1vXkIus2iV1D-71HXOOnqVpjno4lILCpSfzLizpGxQR_YXoH_692A5J0C7XqDkOkwAgV50zDo0cycPG_LWksFA1Sy52nyCktRHVbhkpaWSPsAuuTI6azpvRlQ/s1600/Style-Icon---Brigitte-Bardot.png" /></a></div>
<br />
However, all this fame comes with its drawbacks as she was often hounded by the paparazzi and fans would try to enter her home. In 1973, just before she turned 40, Bardot retired. She said that retiring was "a way to get out elegantly". Once she retired, she become involved in animal rights and started the "Foundation Brigitte Bardot" for the welfare of animals. <br />
<br />
Brigitte is a style icon because she created the off-the-shoulder Bardot neckline, popularised the bikini and made gingham stylish. Her style screams Parisian chic and you could often find her wearing a breton top (my favourite) with a pair of peddle pushers or capri pants - She knew how to show off her curves. I would say her style was definitely flirty.<br />
<br />
What do you think of Bardot's style?<br />

<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW93GcXC9xlZGBLGZTxZvgAA8FK-m3qPwSpoR5IdlYXshVUp_343qRpyQVqUB9kNi3tzolsesO8_rb20_6hpNiQ3F_zrOG5Rhi2VdVNL9KwHKSqkdI6VXnK1n9_W-dYCkGBuirZ0D5KhA/s1600/1.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
I'm a big fan of Orla Kiely because of her fashion design and the patterns she uses too. The patterns Orla Kiely uses often hark back to the past and remind us of the 1950s-1970s, but with a contemporary and fresh twist. I'm already the proud owner of the Pattern book and when I found this book I knew I had to have a read. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij4oqXKeqYu2L_x7iy3eZeKJvxMCnT6ap3g28F4O4GxoZLhKMDIC6hrcLl-7rfJk7VoH5J0o5Sxh_BbIKFJZ3-o_rJltukB5SVszXlkVg7jQy-KjmABG2oCxLCV7tbe_i9z0gwyubbfxo/s1600/2.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
Her home book features lots of big and beautiful photographs of interiors and decor. The book begins with discussions on her patterns and style and then a chapter on her own home which is inspirational and definitely reflects Orla's designs! It is not just a book on herself though, as the bulk of the book are chapters on case studies of other modernist houses across the globe. Each photograph is accompanied with a caption of Orla commenting on the colours, shape, history or design process. Very insightful!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKDnkShBrRVBB6Gna8GsDSp7e7HJOrdOyhl1RD_mAfoWqXl8E50xCeB7XnKY5yG9mYdkE-QK7bCYas_RHIVIkTJP1sNMBf5c0zd3GK3MpKkEf4CuJHh1UZp2DpQrFloyOxUuA2min0Fx4/s1600/3.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
If you're a fan of retro furniture and design from the mid-century then I'd definitely recommend this book! I'm a big vintage fan and find that the book is a treat for my eyes. Once you've flicked through it a few times and have satisfied your need of looking at the photos, you start reading and find out many interesting facts about the houses that Orla Kiely has studied. The book is great if you're an Orla Kiely fan, however there are only a few chapters on her own work and it is more of a display of admiration for modernism. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_NGORNvnJ4JAYFjbpOTEiCTdWmnqyYkhd01bHg1zLDJDbEQawTpAgT2t9QpRYMI8mQc8QdHmWHovE2YZTLtujXTgJEfNmKQsAwyNDVS3FRRVtloC4Usx80tLwstABx9tqU8f-GHQ_Hek/s1600/4.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
The book is quite a big one, so I wouldn't recommend carrying it around in your handbag, however the cover is beautifully covered in one of Orla Kiely's iconic patterns and would look beautiful on a coffee table or on your book shelf. Get this book if you're fascinated in retro design or interiors.<br />
<br />
Are you a fan of Orla Kiely? What about retro furnishings and decor?<br />

For the very first post, I thought that I would have to start off with the legendary Audrey Hepburn. I often find myself looking into the past for inspiration as I am a big fan of anything vintage or retro looking.<br />
<br />
Audrey Hepburn was born in Belgium in 1926, but soon traveled to England to study in London. She then returned to the Netherlands during the war and fell ill with malnutrition and depression. After that she ventured to London again to ballet school and began to model. It wasn't long before she found a career in film and moved to America. Such a jet-setter! <br />
<br />
She appeared in many films during the 1950s and 60s such as <i>Roman Holiday</i> (1953), <i>Love in the Afternoon</i> (1957) and my favourite, <i>Breakfast at Tiffany's</i> (1961). She decided to retire from Hollywood at the end of the 60s and worked for UNICEF.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSNyP6TVWtYutAfXAZeJjqQjjbs4BrNjgooyTrPPLZOjqxV4oC55qRs_8e2QudiU13iRCHSeqAGrdYzzMBb1tGqzAaaXBdzBteX3qTf4NIpX9QJ58snK9PTFD3KdFy5TCoZBoAnuLN67E/s1600/Style-Icon---Audrey-Hepburn.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSNyP6TVWtYutAfXAZeJjqQjjbs4BrNjgooyTrPPLZOjqxV4oC55qRs_8e2QudiU13iRCHSeqAGrdYzzMBb1tGqzAaaXBdzBteX3qTf4NIpX9QJ58snK9PTFD3KdFy5TCoZBoAnuLN67E/s1600/Style-Icon---Audrey-Hepburn.png" /></a></div>
<br />
She's a style icon to me because of the little black dress by Givenchy which she wore in<i> Breakfast at Tiffany's</i> which is now one of the most famous dresses of all time. Her wardrobe was full with lots of fashion staples such as breton tops and pencil dresses and skirts. She always would be confident in the clothes she wore, even if they were men's clothing! Not only were her clothes stylish, but her short haircut showed off her big eyes which she enhanced with eyeliner and mascara. She could always give a feminine twist with her makeup. <br />

Alexa is one of my favourite models because of her style and it's great to have more of an insight into her life.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXhdAiUQrtHHmxiuIUX4Hxsrf5e6AkoNTem7h8eKncq0G880Potxg9li0PUcyGegihyP_XVoXTc-_1IAqc3ntkxD4j8juJPBsksOd1RYNQeZh4RAspY4XrMaxobQvpW2SfryRB8E8DnVE/s1600/5.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
Alexa writes in a charming and humorous way. I wouldn't really say the book is an autobiography, but more of a conversation and display of her thoughts. It's got a very down to earth and natural feel almost as if she is writing her own diary. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhog-XXqJa-Xdwo22PAs_w_TczRi1h8fOB_W1uv0f-gehCsT-Qk9nNdFcy7hIaw5EbcPccubaamfH5tdVqPZolCLC5chETtuzOai4vz6GptuA3k9rHlLUIGHX454PiWgFRFPQKMfvBckio/s1600/6.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
You will find ramblings on what got Alexa interested in fashion, the beginnings of her modelling career, makeup, fashion shows and her life. Although, the details are quite brief so I don't think this is the right book if you're looking for a 'how to guide' or autobiography as I finished the book in two short sittings. It must have only taken an hour or so to get through it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie-EwiDbTp257SdPtNv3hqK7-dI0Zcha9P6bVuDdEaOwrWLCe4hX6ufSl2Fjb0PIdpt8V7M_085vDaeiaxGkG68LUG3-VQs-tmfoJ9Q1_IyqgVldlVyMVmI5dY_Qoch9d3RJE2Vg9AyFQ/s1600/7.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
Overall, the book isn't very lengthy, but enjoyable to read nonetheless. It's more a collection of witty comments and instagram styled photographs. The layout of the pages are very aesthetically pleasing and just nice to look out. If you're looking for an easy read and you're a big fan of fashion or Alexa, then I really recommend <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/It-Alexa-Chung/dp/1846147549" target="_blank"><i>It</i></a>. <br />

All day. Never the less, I had a great day with my boyfriend and got to show off my new shoes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWXYeRonHvZ7GtI6oRvEBvZG-vSsGCkQKPLLNsPPtRwmCOLLecUbEIVI11NUoAw0Cj9SN0S036EFASzMh9q_qt8mhpZmXvZiLdhGAt9LT9K9AGJvXrsfGP8WGjNIlt1eORCmMmoNS-g0M/s1600/5.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
I have wanted some brogues for ages as I really believe they're a timeless classic and last year my sister bought a pair like <a href="http://www.grenson.co.uk/en_gb/shop/rose-2892" target="_blank">these</a> and I immediately fell in love with them! Through my sister purchasing Grenson, I found <a href="http://www.grenson.co.uk/en_gb/emily-9532" target="_blank">my golden ones</a> and I knew I had to have a pair and bought them with my Christmas money.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEialD0jcgrI3U-RH-k7_od9XX4A1Nf-1naOdol4b_ZWOE5FTvNWiGRrwewZMpLJvooRE7W9kNxnJtERSZ2Qj6WBIHWEr2zRvtQWTkdjISyRGpw0_7vGzmaWZ_dBD_wYiMV9GiokzTqnR7o/s1600/1.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
They're so different and I think that's why I like them so much, I haven't seen many other metallic brogues around. The rubber wedge sole on them is quite thick and makes me about an inch taller. At least I know I'm not going to wear any holes in them anytime soon. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I must admit that I am a bit of a magpie and I'm attracted to anything that sparkles. These are so shiny you can see your reflection! At least my Granddad can't say I'm scruffy anymore (not that I ever was). <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsIHOrlwxJU9l_VgxYXLHxaM7lwfs2h9ypihewhfay26H8c7gRHjAYgKPzQXv-H6k7SWiTI2ZuFrIm0dPvJwjBvQ0tX_eu8Pn90Jtz9ZiNEBYTtDBI0_Z8LMfw1dgAAxN5a0-cjHU_SpY/s1600/3.jpg" width="600px" /></div>
<br />
I'm really pleased that I got these shoes from <a href="http://www.grenson.co.uk/en_gb/sale" target="_blank">Grenson</a>! They were quite expensive for my pocket, but the quality of them is excellent and these will last me for a long time and you must always treat yourself to something luxurious once in a while.<br />
<br />
Please let me know what you think. Are you a fan of them? Do you own a pair of brogues yourself?<br />
<br />
I hope everyone's 2014 started off well.<br />

The years seem to fly by faster every year; it's quite scary. The beginning of the year didn't start very well and I was quite unlucky as I was no longer sure what I wanted from university, I lost a lot of money and my little sister had to put in hospital after she fell out of bed. It got better though! I'm now super happy and enjoying myself at the University of Leeds and have met so many interesting people and lovely friends.<br />
<br />
Here's a little round-up of instagram pictures in video form. They are my most popular photos during this year:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dwg1TEn0pRFwwy_hdM3VCucdyqlPq0D4giwOqbCgMR2ghoexgZ0DpxACVK4v_pCKMoe_cgM_xxXVLZEiCJ1XQ' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
So, what are your resolutions for the following year? I usually don't make new year resolutions, but I have a lot of things I'd like to do, so I might as well start now! I plan to:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Grow my nails so I can paint them more and so they're not so stubby.</li>
<li>Eat more fruit and vegetables. </li>
<li>Think first and don't rush into things.</li>
<li>Try and blog once a week.</li>
<li>Read more books!</li>
</ul>
I've got to make time for reading more books. I don't mean loads and loads of books, but just a few really good ones. I plan to finish reading the following books before 2014 is out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d188/abblecrumble/Must-Reads.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d188/abblecrumble/Must-Reads.png" /></a></div>
<br />
Has anyone else got any recommendations?<br />
Have you made any resolutions?<br /><br />

I hope everyone had a brilliant Christmas.<br />
One of my favourite presents was from my twin sister. She got me a beautiful beagle brooch designed by <a href="http://erstwilder.com/" target="_blank">Erstwilder</a>. Erstwilder jewellery is designed by Melbourne artist, Louisa Camille, so it's traveled a long way to see me. Her jewellery is full of fun and each character in the collection has its own personality. It brings sunshine to my day. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ9eDCVdIFhW3XGvoiXyLygwAWjtbsRhQqqokTL5-pO6ppWFwgzBLJWN6T-JbXI428Ee7CZo-75D78T8P20rvrnJryuY64FLya9PaNvSSttJLQzECXwLLtV0jPR2x4fANZZ3yMug3LUTU/s1600/IMG_1623.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ9eDCVdIFhW3XGvoiXyLygwAWjtbsRhQqqokTL5-pO6ppWFwgzBLJWN6T-JbXI428Ee7CZo-75D78T8P20rvrnJryuY64FLya9PaNvSSttJLQzECXwLLtV0jPR2x4fANZZ3yMug3LUTU/s640/IMG_1623.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
The layered resin brooch has such a cute and quirky appearance which I
really love. It's so different and I have already been complemented on
it. The beagle's name is Beatrice and she sports a pink and blue leopard print coat. Super stylish! It's such an appropriate brooch because we have a beagle named Honey so I'm no stranger to these cute creatures.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizrsHlqcfZJRYnAHJnN2_4YxfRaYxG89IA9MQ4oqjBJw3LeoMit1Iw83oQT_B81K_wLEUHCtPJaQ4fUZeLgEsyA5m9UTL27snfY6USuUuEspiv1fLfMViYv4CpzCu8-ZzmImlv-fYWwa8/s1600/IMG_1625.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizrsHlqcfZJRYnAHJnN2_4YxfRaYxG89IA9MQ4oqjBJw3LeoMit1Iw83oQT_B81K_wLEUHCtPJaQ4fUZeLgEsyA5m9UTL27snfY6USuUuEspiv1fLfMViYv4CpzCu8-ZzmImlv-fYWwa8/s640/IMG_1625.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
My only worry is that I'll break it because it is made from resin, so I have to be extra careful not to drop it, but I don't think I will. I'm always cautious and the brooch is of a very high quality and makes a fabulous gift. Erstwilder is also on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/erstwilder" target="_blank">Facebook</a> and<a href="http://www.pinterest.com/louisacamille/" target="_blank"> Pinterest</a>.<br />
<br />

I've not posted much since September, I'm sorry! It's because I've just started university and I've been so busy settling in. I've come home for Christmas and it's so good just to be able to relax and catch up with family and friends at home. Here's what I've been up to:<br />

The Corn Exchange is an architectural beauty in the city centre. It was built in the 1860s and was funnily enough, where they exchanged corn. <br />
<br />
Nowadays, the Corn Exchange is the home of lots of cute little boutiques and quirky shops. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinfB350ldUsI0_p4zeWlfTOg4zdwWrNbbs_ycH5-3BI7YXAW1EYzTZ-5dqjcHycwnCVYBkOyU1H-TrxueaGHEyO0m8lSFp04aXy4sL3vim3pnrN-mkxRQK0r-W5oDz5bxHSzd1OhZhSsg/s1600/IMG_1305.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinfB350ldUsI0_p4zeWlfTOg4zdwWrNbbs_ycH5-3BI7YXAW1EYzTZ-5dqjcHycwnCVYBkOyU1H-TrxueaGHEyO0m8lSFp04aXy4sL3vim3pnrN-mkxRQK0r-W5oDz5bxHSzd1OhZhSsg/s640/IMG_1305.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
My first buy was this beautiful dream catcher. I hope it stops all my nightmares! I have been wanting a dream catcher for a while now, but I hadn't come across the right one until I saw this one. I love the colours and all the little beads. A great addition to my room!<br />
<br />

<br />
This decoration was a bit more difficult to get a decent picture of! It's a long jingley ornament. I am not sure what it is called! Basically, there are lots of embellished hearts and beads on a string. At the bottom is a bell and it jingles when ever I walk past it. I just loved the ethnic look of it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbzs8D2Df1kTEvanIbK611Tt6Q48UBbFFnbEvKGlA4G6QiCspMRtid9IlP0F0o97C4sazXQUA7RWJ067BFF0_KgY84YTVRBd0Ql1Nbz_8GCCBESJA6Tzue6sYCXhPVsnvvBnnYGRw81_o/s1600/IMG_1281.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbzs8D2Df1kTEvanIbK611Tt6Q48UBbFFnbEvKGlA4G6QiCspMRtid9IlP0F0o97C4sazXQUA7RWJ067BFF0_KgY84YTVRBd0Ql1Nbz_8GCCBESJA6Tzue6sYCXhPVsnvvBnnYGRw81_o/s640/IMG_1281.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
We went to a vintage boutique too and I bought some jewellery. I love the pocket watch necklace, it actually works too which is a bonus. There are also these cute daisy earrings which are so kitsch.<br />
<br />
Have you ever been to the Corn Exchange or is there anywhere else in Leeds you can recommend?<br />
Hope you liked this post!<br />

So, I can now tell you all that I've been at uni for a week now. It's gone so quickly... Feels like I've been here for months.<br />
<br />
So, all my flatmates finally moved in on Saturday (I arrived on Wednesday) it's been pretty hectic since then. I went out to the arrival party, but I'm not the biggest party animal. I would much rather sit in watching a good film with a hot chocolate (I'm such a grandma). My flatmates are a bit louder and shout a lot! Hopefully they'll settle down after Freshers.<br />
<br />
I've had fun decorating my new room and I can't wait to collect more cute things over the year or so. Here are some pictures of my room:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaj5Up0KvjoSEY9Iu7FpL315KFMshk2t1GlpqL2e5W4ZX7hh-gDX4aUUhmUSed1NrZ-ChnfNsFGDHM2LuNEYibqR-Kni3UosRhPRQusCXviAhpzIuoUI28h63QcS8uJpIFjtDp3DcI8-A/s1600/Room+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaj5Up0KvjoSEY9Iu7FpL315KFMshk2t1GlpqL2e5W4ZX7hh-gDX4aUUhmUSed1NrZ-ChnfNsFGDHM2LuNEYibqR-Kni3UosRhPRQusCXviAhpzIuoUI28h63QcS8uJpIFjtDp3DcI8-A/s1600/Room+1.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDbj4j3xW-eUAj9gsuXC59H_OoIW2-8ejgCNKcBTQbRHokYn6_31pUG_BnmaVdbCOlnIcUYFFzgpMoMOUhBwa6jDNXAfaImLwLOsTxdMadBtysWUh2hOw85_pdNmsZozTMKOoBm7q0bgQ/s1600/Room+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDbj4j3xW-eUAj9gsuXC59H_OoIW2-8ejgCNKcBTQbRHokYn6_31pUG_BnmaVdbCOlnIcUYFFzgpMoMOUhBwa6jDNXAfaImLwLOsTxdMadBtysWUh2hOw85_pdNmsZozTMKOoBm7q0bgQ/s1600/Room+2.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
I can't do much about the orange curtains, but I guess they add a bit of colour to my bright room!<br />
<br />
One thing I'm looking forwards to is starting my course properly. Can't wait to start doing some more designing. I feel like I've had such a big break from education and I need to get back into it.<br />
<br />
Tonight I'm going to the pub quiz! I love quizzes and I'm quite competitive, so it should be fun. <br />
<br />
I'll keep you updated. Let me know if you have any advice for uni.<br />

<br />
How are you? Thanks to everyone that took part in my custom portrait giveaway last month.There was a lot of entries, but there could only be one winner and that was Annalise Grech from <a href="http://pastelbokeh.blogspot.co.uk/">Pastel Bokeh</a>.<br />
<br />
I was really excited to draw a portrait for her and decided to go with a purple colour scheme (because Annalise loves that colour). I also added some roses in the background to create a very feminine illustration.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3wl1QhHChv24Zjy3ImTJQhnrX9piV_6CIveRJcYPgge15YF7NZCdSFKpNmNsDU6lqZMZKuSWunv-ymHOzFWCLisDAsawt86GuTdOk053hBIICNALuzls4JoZKPWPPZSecDbYgjEMzgzw/s1600/Annalise.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3wl1QhHChv24Zjy3ImTJQhnrX9piV_6CIveRJcYPgge15YF7NZCdSFKpNmNsDU6lqZMZKuSWunv-ymHOzFWCLisDAsawt86GuTdOk053hBIICNALuzls4JoZKPWPPZSecDbYgjEMzgzw/s640/Annalise.png" width="424" /></a></div>
I hope to host another giveaway soon, so please keep your eyes peeled.<br />
<br />
Other news is that I only have one more week until I go to university. I'm so nervous. I'm starting to get cold feet, but I suppose that it's a completely natural feeling. It'll be a really exciting and fun experience, I'm sure. Anyway, I'll keep you updated!<br /><br />Don't forget to follow me via <a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/5287493/?claim=nzf3yr2d9wb" target="_blank">Bloglovin'</a>!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBwPLmnd3WP4tKnhmtrC86SMrUMENipM8FI-1BeJBaFeQ_evO_y_ybfv-_Zp4iaZEXH2GcVU5fqgM3sqqcHFO9Yr_DiHr6aOmRhx5359UydgW3MGuPJoGSbzvqqY8wOhb-ujukxwwg13g/s1600/Newgate.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="378" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBwPLmnd3WP4tKnhmtrC86SMrUMENipM8FI-1BeJBaFeQ_evO_y_ybfv-_Zp4iaZEXH2GcVU5fqgM3sqqcHFO9Yr_DiHr6aOmRhx5359UydgW3MGuPJoGSbzvqqY8wOhb-ujukxwwg13g/s640/Newgate.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<br />
So, what is a student essential? A number for the nearest takeaway? Well yes there is that, but one other thing that a student needs is an alarm clock!<br />
<br />
When I saw this <a href="http://www.johnlewis.com/newgate-cubic-alarm-clock-black/p562131#media-overlay_show" target="_blank">Newgate Cubic alarm clock</a> from <a href="http://www.johnlewis.com/home-garden/clocks/alarm-clocks/c80000811" target="_blank">John Lewis</a>, I fell in love with the retro design and bold red glossy exterior. I knew I could trust a Newgate clock because they're a British company that has been designing stylish clocks for many years now and have gained a great reputation.<br />
<br />
I'll be starting university in just over a week, but I thought I'd give my new bedside table accessory a tryout before I start relying on it to get me to my early morning lectures. I'll let you know that it definitely woke me up. There is no snooze button either so there's no point trying to have a sneaky extra ten minutes in bed which personally I see as a good thing. <br />
<br />
In an age of digital technology, I think it's great how Newgate are staying true to their classic style by sticking with analogue. If you're looking for a reliable timekeeper then I really recommend this. There are a lot of different styles and makes in John Lewis stores and <a href="http://www.johnlewis.com/newgate-cubic-alarm-clock-black/p562131#media-overlay_show" target="_blank">online</a> too. <br />

I am staying in the Halls of Residence, so my room is going to be a blank canvas and very bland. I want my little personal space to be homely and pretty so I've been browsing <a href="http://pinterest.com/buttercrumble/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a> for some ideas. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/54887689181926447/" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://anna.elle.se/files/2012/01/MG_3859.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Here I love the fairy lights which help break up the blank wall and provide a bit of warmth. I also like how it looks like it's an organised mess! Yes, there are bits of clutter everywhere, but it's been put together in a beautiful way.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/54887689181926444/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="780" src="http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/62/bb/dc/62bbdc9d5e23eb10d562e3b90d062e5a.jpg" width="520" /></a></div>
<br />
In a small room, storage is a must! A shelf like this would be perfect for storing all my little nicknacks. I'm a big fan of the flowers too! In a room drained of colour, it's always good to add a bit of life and greenery.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/54887689181926442/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="582" src="http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/9a/0b/fd/9a0bfdf136f31f60e3ff36d235f2e9cf.jpg" width="520" /></a></div>
<br />
The fairy lights are back again! That's not all that I fancy though. I think the pictures on the wall are a good idea and I could put some photographs of home up in my own room. I have lots of cushions for my new bed and will definitely put them to use! The bed in this picture looks so cosy.<br />
<br />
Want to know where these pictures are from? Just click on them and it'll lead you to the pinned image from Pinterest.<br />
<br />
What kind of decorations do you love? Do you enjoy personalising your own space? <br />

In a month's time I will arriving at my new home to start university! I can't wait. In the last week, accommodation has been given out to all the new students and I have found out that I'll be at the same residences as my sister. I'm glad we're not in the same flat though. There's a lot to prepare before I go...<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Buy some more essential items for the wardrobe such as black trousers and smart shoes.</li>
<li>Stock up on some fresh makeup to take.</li>
<li>Go shopping with my grandma to get lots of tinned food to take with me to save on money when I'm there.</li>
<li>Complete me <i>eIntro</i> where I register to the course online and select my modules.</li>
<li>Pack all my items away and get ready to leave.</li>
</ul>
So as you can see, I'm busy, busy, busy! Has anyone been to university or at university? Can you offer any advice on how to survive as a student? I'll keep you updated on my adventure.<br />

Her new book describes all the trials and tribulations of setting up and running the business. I think it's amazing how it grew from very tiny acorns.<br />
<br />
When I visited the York store on Tuesday, I saw the book and just had to buy it! I've had my eyes on it for a while. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM15yK9cq1rAc5bVtlpuyL1ydPm-e9PxcxPP4BOS-bMzz1WW0zsil1_hBZBjulbMzSL2wvJqoUsw_J9cBTHgLk3z6XA-pvIgcXFr9QwVCw_wwEL4E_REkGx7vxzPUyxHBlDCFuIKKffdM/s1600/Coming-Up-Roses-Book-%25C2%25A316-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM15yK9cq1rAc5bVtlpuyL1ydPm-e9PxcxPP4BOS-bMzz1WW0zsil1_hBZBjulbMzSL2wvJqoUsw_J9cBTHgLk3z6XA-pvIgcXFr9QwVCw_wwEL4E_REkGx7vxzPUyxHBlDCFuIKKffdM/s1600/Coming-Up-Roses-Book-%25C2%25A316-1.jpg" height="640" width="496" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The book gives an insight into Cath's early days and how she didn't really have any training for running a business or designing, but it was more of an instinct. She describes the many hurdles she faced from starting in a little shop in Holland Park, London to expanding into an international and famous brand.<br />
<br />
The book is full of beautiful photographs featuring the first store and where Cath Kidston found most of her inspiration as well as her wonderful floral patterns and prints. The book is a piece of art itself!<br />
<br />
If you are an enterprising individual, a crafty artist or just a fan of the brand, then you'll love this book! I just couldn't put it down and finished it very quickly, but that's because of how interesting and inspiring it was.<br />
<br />
Let's hope for another 20 years of modern vintage prints and lovely florals.<br />
<br />
You can purchase the book from Cath Kidston's website <a href="http://www.cathkidston.co.uk/p-19667-cath-kidston-coming-up-roses-birthday-book.aspx?" target="_blank">here</a> or why not<a href="http://www.cathkidston.co.uk/findus.aspx" target="_blank"> search for a store</a> near you?<br />

For the last year and a half I've been saving up for university because my student loan is too small to cover the costs of living. To earn money, I had to take up a part time job and work on weekends and holidays as well as having to balance it with college. It's been difficult at times, but well worth it!<br />
<br />
My part time job requires me to work in a small supermarket and serve customers. I'm usually stood behind the till and sometimes it gets very tedious. The long hours just standing on my feet are not fun. I wanted to share some tips with you and give some advice on how to make it seem less mundane.<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li><b>Remember to Treat Yourself</b><br />When pay day comes, remember to get yourself a little something. A bit of retail therapy always cheers me up and reminds you that if you didn't have a job, you wouldn't be able to treat yourself. <br /> </li>
<li><b>Think of the Big Picture</b> <br />Why are you working? It could be to save up for something special (in my case, university) or to get you one step closer to your ideal job. Working is important and all the experience you gain is really useful.<br /> </li>
<li><b>It Motivates You</b><br />Sometimes when I'm at work, I get really bored especially when there's nothing to do. Then I think about what it'd be like to do this same job for the next fourty years - It's not a pretty thought. This motivates me to do well in my studies so that I can have a better job in the future.</li>
<br />
<li><b>Improves your Character</b><br />At work, I am always in view of the public! Most customers are lovely and kind, although you do get a few rude ones. I think this really helps you develop your people skills and definitely improves your confidence as you are forced to speak to strangers.</li>
<br />
<li><b>You'd Rather be Bored and Earning Money fo</b>r <b>it</b><br />I know part time jobs aren't very exciting, but you'd probably end up getting bored at home (I do)! At least you're getting paid for being bored. <b>Just think of the money!</b></li>
</ol>
<b> </b>I hope my advice helps someone out there. Are you tired of your job at all? What would be your ideal career? I can't wait to start designing more and hopefully one day I'll be able to do that full time because that's my passion and I take all my design work very seriously. <br /><br />Don't forget to follow me via <a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/5287493/?claim=nzf3yr2d9wb" target="_blank">Bloglovin'</a>!<br />

My favourite colour at the moment is duck egg blue! It's such a cute colour and reminds me of vintage and shabby chic style too. I think it's serene and helps me to relax (that's why my bedroom is painted this colour).<br />
<br />
I love the <a href="http://www.astleyclarke.com/uk/18-carat-yellow-gold-vermeil-pale-blue-enamel-ring-d29008?awc=1433_1335177189_fd76c809a8028218e97e92e0dbc2296e#" target="_blank">enamel ring</a> by Astley Clarke (in fact, I love all of his jewellery). It's so stylish and something a bit different to a plain gold band. Also, you can create your very own ring stack and customise it to however you like. This is on my wish list.<br />
<br />
Not forgetting the feather tray by <a href="http://www.arytrays.com/" target="_blank">Ary Trays</a> who handcraft trays using birch wood. I think the feathers are beautiful in their own right and the illustration featured on the tray really make it a great piece. It's literally following the duck egg theme.<br />
<br />
So, what do you think? Do you have a favourite piece from the goodies I found?<br />
