My University Journey Continues...

So recently I have had some good news! I have a place at the University of Leeds for in September. Yay! The course I will be attending is Graphic Communication and I'm really looking forwards to it.

I originally applied for Architecture through UCAS, but I totally had a change of heart because I think it'd limit my creativity and wouldn't be something I would enjoy as much as I enjoy graphics. I had to withdraw from all the universities I originally applied for to apply to Leeds so it was a bit of a risk, but it's paid off!

Leeds is a great city (especially for shopping) and it's not too far from home so I'll be able to visit my family if I want to. It couldn't be more perfect.

Has anyone been to university? Are you at university? I'm looking for any words of advice!

Passion for Pattern

A few weeks ago I posted about how I'd been taking photographs of farm animals (you can read about it here). I'm still beavering on with my project where I've been creating patterns featuring the animals. I thought I'd share what I've made so far...

 

I have been inspired by 60s patterns and designers such as Orla Kiely and Angie Lewin because I love the colours and shapes that they use. I created these designs using card, pen, pencil, printing and Photoshop! It took me a while to get the patterns to repeat and to be seamless (that's always the hardest part) but now I think it's impossible to tell where the pattern starts and stops.

The first pattern features the highland cattle, and the second one shows the sheep. Which one do you prefer and why?

What do you do about a Dilemma?

I'm facing such a predicament and I feel as though all the stuffing has been knocked out of me.
I've been applying to university, but nothing has been going right for me and I'm yet to receive an offer which is frustrating because I feel as though I'm working so hard.

I was planning on studying architecture at university this year, but now I worry... Is this the right course for me? If I can't get into the university I want to is there any point in going this year (for £9,000 fees)? I'm having such a wobble.

Now I just don't know where to apply because all of them have entry requirements of AAB or AAA and I'm not even sure if I'll get a B in Physics this year.

Fortunately, I've come up with a back-up plan which is studying on the Foundation Course for Art & Design which is a year long and the college just up the road is recruiting at the moment for this course. I've applied there because I hear that art universities really like this degree. It's just a shame because I'd set my heart on university this year so I'll be disappointed if I have to spend another year stuck in my hometown.

I'm sorry to be so negative!  I've just had a really bad run of bad luck and set-backs.  Here are pros and cons of taking the foundation course:

Pros ♥ I'll be able to develop my artistic skills further. ♥ I can think more whether architecture is the right course for me. ♥ I can spend more time working and save up for another year. ♥ I may be able to get into a better university.

Cons ♥ I won't be going to university this year. ♥ I'll have to stay in my home town for another year. ♥ I'll have to reapply to UCAS and go through the whole process again.

I guess when weighing up the pros and cons... maybe the Foundation Course would be good. I just hate this disorganisation and not knowing where I'll be or what I'll be doing next year. Life changing decisions are so difficult!

Can anyone offer some words of wisdom? Have you been through the university process?

I love cows!

I've had a super busy month recently with it being my sister's birthday and Valentine's day and such. I've had so much bad luck recently too. For instance, my sister ended up in hospital after cutting her arm really bad on a pint glass and the car broke down on the way down to London. I am hoping that my luck is starting to change... After all I did have an interview for university last Wednesday so I am hoping that it went well! I would love to get into CSM so when I find out, I will let you know (please cross your fingers for me). Let me know if you have any good luck charms?

Yesterday I visited a farm so that I can take photographs for my graphics project at college. I'm creating a series of surface patterns and I wanted to base them on animals. I think these highland cattle would be perfect. They have such sweet faces and I love their hair it's such a wonderful rich red colour. I know a lot of people are scared of cows! It's such a shame (although I didn't touch any of them, hehe).

Did I mention that there were sheep too? They just wouldn't stop staring at the camera. Obviously very vain. Do you like farm animals? You can view all my photos here.
